Mexico City Itinerary




Day 1: Friday
Arrival to Mexico city - Welcome dinner in one of the most traditional restaurants in Mexico City. You will be staying in one of the city´s downtown hotels.

Day 2: Saturday
Mexico City, once called the The City of Palaces. Today you will travel back in time to the Spanish colony called Nueva España or New Spain and visit the most iconic Colonial palaces, which were built during the viceroyalty. We´ll also get a glimpse on how the City was built over the Aztec temples and palaces, which remains can still be seen today. We will pamper your palate every day of your visit, therefore today we will start with a taste of our delicious food in a 16th century Casona right in the heart of Mexico City . In the afternoon indulge doing some shopping at the arts craft market of la Ciudadela and enjoy a free night. - Breakfast.

Day 3: Sunday
Early visit to the Museum of Anthropology where we´ll better understand the glory of the ancient city of Tenochtitlán…the one the Spanish marveled at upon their arrival in 1519. After our visit we´ll ride our bikes through Mexico City´s most famous and beautiful avenue, Reforma (Reforma avenue is closed for cyclists to enjoy every other Sunday, so we just need to make sure we can do this activity during your visit- otherwise we can visit the Chapultepec Castle, home of the only king Mexico ever had.) You can´t visit Mexico and not sign up for a Taco Journey...yes, the search for the best and most mouthwatering taco ever. With “a full tummy and a happy heart” you will relax in your hotel or you can stroll around downtown...and later we will pick you up and take you to Benjamin´s home for a unique and cosy mezcal tasting with a maestro mezcalero and yes, more delicious Oaxacan aperitifs.

Day 4: Monday
Day trip to Teotihuacan. Early breakfast or box lunch in route to Teotihuacan where you´ll enter the gates the magnificent ancient city of Teotihuacan, one of the most important civilizations of Mesoamerica…if interested we could arrange a hot air balloon flight over the archaeological complex. Teotihuacan is still full of surprises as archeologists continue discovering new hints about how the Teotihucan inhabitants lived and related to their gods. You will walk along the Death Avenue, visit the Feathered Snake Palace, climb the pyramid of the Sun or the Moon, or both, etc. We'll have lunch at the San Juan Teotihuacan market and come back to Mexico City to enjoy some time to relax, have a light dinner, later head off to enjoy some salsa dance!

Day 5: Tuesday
Option 1
A late breakfast is due and afterwards we will head out to the quaint colonial town of Valle de Bravo, 2.5 hours away, however right in the outskirts of Mexico City we´ll stop at the beautiful Desierto de los Leones forest where we will do a hike until we find the 1606 Missionary ex-convent which we´ll visit and stay for lunch. We will continue our transfer to Valle de Bravo. After settling in your hotel rooms, you´ll enjoy a fresh beverage of your choice to relax and watch the sundown, before heading to the Temascal, an ancient Mayan steam bath. Dinner at the hotel.

Option 2
During Monarch Butterfly season (November- March) we´ll wake up not to early and transfer to the butterfly sanctuary where will hike for about 1 hour uphill until we find the breathtaking oyamel pine trees covered with millions of monarch butterflies that as soon as the sun warms them enough they fly to the creeks nearby to drink some water and then flyback before the afternoon gets too cold. We´ll have typical quesadillas for lunch at the Sanctuary and we´ll come back to resume our transfer to the town of Valle de Bravo. After settling in your hotel rooms, you´ll enjoy a fresh beverage of your choice to relax and watch the sundown, before heading to the Temascal, an ancient Mayan steam bath. Dinner at the hotel.

Day 6: Wednesday
Option 1
Today you´ll have some activity options to choose from, either tandem Paragliding over Valle de Bravo´s lake, or hiking or mountain biking, horseback riding or a canopy ride or kayak at the hotel´s property, or just relaxing by the pool. After lunch we´ll visit the quaint town of Valle de Bravo and visit the Handicrafts Market.

Option 2Early visit to a second Monarch butterfly sanctuary which is 3 hours away from Valle de Bravo in the State of Michoacán…and that is also an amazing natural spectacle.

Day 7: Thursday
Option 1
After breakfast we will head back to Mexico City and once you are settled in your hotel we will stroll towards the Palace of Fine Arts, a breathtaking neoclassical building and one of Mexico´s most important cultural centers. We will go across the Alameda or Mexico City´s central park where the Aztec marketplace used to be and later, in 1529 the viceroy turned into a green space where the city´s inhabitants could chill out and enjoy. We´ll continue our walk up to the Franz Mayer Museum which we will visit. We can stroll back to the hotel or ride a e-bike taxi. Once you´ve freshen up we´ll enjoy a musical night out in the famous Garibaldi square where mariachis gather and play their best folk songs.

Option 2
After breakfast in your hotel, we´ll head back to Mexico City, and just before entering the City we´ll stop at the beautiful Desierto de los Leones forest where we´ll hike until we find the 1606 Missionary ex-convent which we´ll visit and stay for lunch. We´ll resume our way to Mexico City where you´ll get settled in our your hotel where you´ll have dinner and later we´ll have a musical night out in the famous Garibaldi square where mariachis gather and play their best folk songs.

Day 8: Friday
Today we recommend a frugal breakfast before we head out to visit a food market with an expert chef who will guide us through Mexico´s culinary history (modern and past) and peculiar ingredients, peppers, chiles, grains, veggies, fruits, etc. And with a very full grocery bag we´ll join the Chef into his kitchen where he´ll teach you how to cook a “pa chuparse los dedos “brunch. You will have a free afternoon to rest, read, and specially get ready for a night full of fun and a good dose of adrenaline at the Luchas Libres (Mexican wrestling) where the luchadores wrestle to keep their mask and save their honor.

Day 9: Saturday
Today we´ll visit the iconic channels of Xochimilco, the Aztec farmland. Avoiding the touristy part our visit and will focus on the historical, cultural and natural landscape of Xochimilco ..we will of course get on board our trajineras or traditional boats for a cruise around the channel maze. We´ll get a snack here, and then head to Frida Kahlo´s house and museum in the part of the city known as Coyocan where we´ll have lunch and a nice stroll around the main square. Afterwards we´ll get back to the hotel where you´ll have time to freshen up and get ready for some cocktails before our farewell dinner.
